In my previous article, I showed you how to install WordPress in cPanel. Today let me show you how to add domain to hosting on cPanel.
As a real estate investor, there are few things you need to know. For example, how to add domain to hosting on cPanel.
If you have your domain name and hosting in two different places and your web hosting uses cPanel, you’ll need to add your domain to your account.
Have a Good Web Hosting Plan
To do this, you must have a web hosting plan that allows you to add domains to your account. If you’re not sure, usually on the side of the screen in cPanel it will show you how many “Addon Domains” you’re using out of how many are available. For example, in the example below, you can see that 2 of 11 available domains are being used. That means in this example we could have a total of 11 domains added to our account and right now we’re only using 2, so we could add 9 more.
So, assuming your hosting allows you to add more domains, you’ll have two main things to do. One part is pointing your domain from where it’s registered (for example, GoDaddy or NameCheap) to your web hosting.
To do that you’ll need to log in to wherever you registered your domain name (for example, GoDaddy or NameCheap) and find the settings for “Name Servers”.
What settings should you use? You’ll have to get those settings from your web hosting company. Usually, when you sign up with them they’ll tell you what settings to use, but if you’re not sure you may need to contact them.
After you’ve done that, you’ll need to add this domain name to your web hosting account as an add-on domain. This is assuming you already have a how to add domain to hosting cPaneldomain name hosted here and this is an additional site you’re adding.
On the main screen of cPanel, find the section called Domains and click Addon Domains.
Enter your domain name in the “New Domain Name” box. You shouldn’t need to enter things in the other boxes or click anything else. Just enter the domain name and click “Add Domain”.
It will automatically put things in the other boxes when you click. Don’t worry about that. It will use the right settings.
Now your domain name should be pointed to your web hosting. This can take time to take effect. It’s best if you don’t try doing anything with your domain name for a while. Give it at least an hour before doing anything with it. It can take 24-48 hours to fully take effect, but generally, it will start working within an hour or so if you haven’t used this domain before and if you don’t try doing anything with the domain.
If you try going to your website before the name server changes take effect, it will usually make it take a lot longer to take effect.
